The 579th Medical Group pharmacy fills prescriptions from military and civilian providers for all eligible beneficiaries for items routinely stocked in the pharmacy. The pharmacy stocks medications on the Joint Operations Area Unified Medication Formulary, which is the list of medications stocked at Military Medical Facilities throughout the National Capital Region. Some of these medications require a one to two duty-day delay for filling.

Hours of Operation
The pharmacy is open from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, and 0800-1630 on Thursday. The Pharmacy is closed on the weekends and federal holidays. The pharmacy is also closed the first Wednesday of each month from 1300 to 1630 for mandatory training.

New Prescriptions
The patient ID card is required to process. If the prescription is turned in by someone other than the patient, the submitter must have a picture ID, the patient ID card (copy of front and back of the ID is acceptable). Parents are not required to have ID cards for their children if under 18 years of age. Also, all dependents and retirees need to show their yellow third party insurance card at every visit. (If you don't have one, it only takes a minute to fill out the form and we will give you a card.)

Most maintenance medications can be dispensed for 90-day supplies if the provider writes the prescription for 90-day supplies. Quantity limitations on some medications have been established by the pharmacy and Therapeutics Function. Most controlled substance prescriptions will not be dispensed for more than 30-day supplies.

Written prescriptions must have an original signature by the provider. Copies, faxed prescriptions, and stamped signatures will not be accepted. We also do not accept prescriptions over the phone from the physician's office.

Refill Prescriptions
The preferred method to request refills is through our easy-to-use automated call-in line. The pharmacy number for refills is (240) 404-7978 or 1 (800) 377-1723. Step-by-step instructions are provided on the telephone refill system. The date for pick up will be given by the phone system.

Prescriptions will be held on the shelf for seven calendar days after which they will be returned to stock.

If you are a newcomer to Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling and have medication(s) from your previous base you want to refill:
Bring your bottle(s) with the label indicating number of refills remaining; pharmacy personnel will contact the military treatment facility to transfer the prescription to the 579th Medical Group pharmacy and fill your prescription. Please allow 48-hours for the transfer.

NOTE: If our pharmacy DOES NOT carry the medication requested for refill, you will be referred to an off-base pharmacy. They will call your previous military treatment facility and transfer your prescription to their pharmacy. Please be aware you may have to make a co-payment (out of pocket fee) for the medication.

TRICARE Home Delivery and Retail Network
Another option available to beneficiaries for filling prescriptions is TRICARE Pharmacy Home Delivery. Eligible beneficiaries include Active Duty military personnel and TRICARE enrollees. TRICARE enrollees that have other insurance are required to utilize the other available pharmacy benefit coverage first. There is no co-pay required for Active Duty personnel and $3.00 to $22.00 co-pay for other enrollees based on the formulary status of the medication. Depending on the physician's orders, patients may receive up to a 90-day supply of maintenance medications per co-pay. Any questions should be directed to the member service line at 1 (877) 363-1433.

A final option is the local TRICARE Network Pharmacies. Enrollees that have other insurance are required to use the other coverage first. A co-pay is required for each prescription per 30 days for non-active duty members. Many local pharmacies accept TRICARE. Check with your chosen pharmacy for requirements.
